Outsider
Do you ever feel like an outsider? Sometimes I do and it is usually at the park. It isn't thhat the mom's aren't nice it is just that they all are in a clique of sorts. I mean Terrell and I go to the ppark and they may say hi to me once in a while they even really talk to me but most of the time we are ignored. I try to be friendly but you can tell that something is not right. Sometimes I think it is because I am not a SAHM who is at the park every nice day we have. Other times I wonder if it is because we live in a apartment instead of owning our home. It is just weird and it makes me uneasy alot. I try not to let it bother me but I feel like I am back in school and am the new kid. Terrell plays with the kids and gets along pretty well but I don't feel comfortable asking anyone over for a play date. I am not really sure how to go about making our social circle a little bigger so that T has more kids to play with. Any ideas how I can stop feeling like a outsider at the playground?

Hi Valerie,
I can relate to how you feel like an outsider sometimes! We're a military family which means we move about every THREE years. Yeah...so much for making LONG lasting friendships. After having DJ, I felt the same way you did! I was referred to a MOMS club in my area and I have to admit, it has changed my life. It's not just for stay at home moms either! There's a site called meetup.com and you can search for mommy groups on there. Check it out and let me know what you think. It has helped me to get out with DJ. Go to playgroups, events, moms night outs (wooo hooooo) and fun things like that.
Oh and the moms at the playground are probably feeling the same way you are believe it or not.
Check out meetup.com and search for mommy groups, playgroups, etc....good luck.
p.s. why would anyone judge you for living in an apartment? if they do, then you don't need to be around them. ;)
